Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge (ドラゴンボールＺゼット とびっきりの最さい強きょう対たい最さい強きょう Doragon Bōru Zetto Tobikkiri no Saikyō tai Saikyō, lit. Dragon Ball Z: The Incredible Strongest vs Strongest), also referred to as Dragon Ball Z: The Strongest Rivals, is the eighth Dragon Ball film and the fifth under the Dragon Ball Z banner. It was originally released in Japan on July 20, 1991. It was dubbed in English by Funimation in 2002, and released on VHS and DVD on January 22. The movie was re-released with its sequel, Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler, in November 2008.

Timeline placement
This movie takes place after Future Trunks first appears but before the Androids arrive. The film's opening depicts the climax of Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku in Age 737 where Bardock attacks Frieza with his Final Spirit Cannon only for it to be consumed by Frieza's Supernova which destroys him and Planet Vegeta as Kakarot's Attack Ball heads towards Earth during which it is detected by Cooler's Spaceship though Cooler stops his men from destroying it, unaware that the Saiyan inside it would one day defeat Frieza. This film and Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone are the only two Dragon Ball movies featured on the Dragon Ball timeline in Daizenshuu 7. In Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II, it is shown that Cooler arrived on Earth in Age 764, during the time when Goku, Gohan and Piccolo had just begun training. However, Cooler is fought in his final form much later in the game on New Namek.

Son Goku 孙悟空
(日语：孫悟空；英语：Son Goku)，是鸟山明的原作漫画《龙珠》及其改编原作系列中登场的虚构角色与主角，名字来自中国古典神怪小说《西游记》的“孙悟空”。“孙”是姓，“悟空”是名。由养育之父孙悟饭授予，其赛亚人本名为:卡卡罗特。其他纯种赛亚人直接称之为卡卡罗特。名字的由来是从红萝卜（胡萝卜）。与他的爱妻琪琪一起生下的长子的名字，是当年拉拔悟空长大的爷爷，孙悟饭的名字。 Son Goku is a Saiyan raised on Earth and the overall main protagonist of the Dragon Ball series. He is Bardock and Gine's youngest son, the husband of Chi-Chi, and the father of Gohan and Goten. Son Goku is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama. He is based on Sun Wukong (known as Son Goku in Japan and Monkey King in the West), a main character of the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, combined with influences from the Hong Kong martial arts films of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. Originally sent to Earth by his parents as an infant, Kakarot was adopted by Grandpa Gohan and given the name Son Goku. A head injury at an early age altered Goku's memory, ridding him of his initial destructive nature and allowing him to grow up to become one of Earth's greatest defenders. Goku constantly strives and trains to be the greatest warrior possible, which has kept the Earth and the universe safe from destruction multiple times.
Son Gohan 孙悟饭

Son Gohan (孫そん悟ご飯はん Son Gohan, Japanese pronunciation: [sõŋgohãɴ]) is a half-breed Saiyan and one of the most prominent characters in the Dragon Ball series. He is the elder son of the series' primary protagonist Goku and his wife Chi-Chi, the older brother of Goten, the husband of Videl and father to Pan. He is named after Goku's adoptive grandfather, Gohan. Unlike his father, Gohan is a brilliant scholar and lacks a passion for fighting, preferring to do so only when his loved ones are threatened. Nevertheless, he spends much of his life participating in the defense of Earth, often helping to turn the tides when the dormant depths of his power are unleashed
Piccolo 比克
比克（日文名：ピッコロ、英文名：Piccolo），日本漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色，Z战士之一。由古川登志夫配音。来自那美克星的那美克星人，曾是企图征服世界的邪恶大魔王，将孙悟空视为宿敌，但随着孙悟空、孙悟饭父子对其之影响，内心逐渐产生改变，最终改邪归正并保护地球。 Piccolo (ピッコロ, Pikkoro) is the spawn of King Piccolo, created to get revenge on Goku in the wake of his death, and subsequently assumes the role as the "evil half" of Kami. However, after being narrowly defeated by Goku, he must team up with him and his friends when opposing the invading Saiyans, including training Goku's son Gohan. He is later revealed to be a Namekian—a green-skinned, four-fingered, hairless humanoid species who created the series' titular Dragon Balls. He dies sacrificing himself to protect Gohan during the fight against the Saiyan Nappa, and trains in the afterlife under King Kai before being wished back to life by the Namekian Dragon Balls. While he temporarily maintains the partnership during the fights with Frieza and the Androids, by the time of the Cell and Majin Buu arcs he accepts the fact they are allies.
Krillin 克林
(クリリン；英语：Kuririn)，是日本漫画作家鸟山明在集英社《周刊少年Jump》连载的《龙珠》虚构角色。一颗光头，没有鼻子，矮小的身材，克林是一个造型简单的人物。作者的创作初衷似乎在设计一位标准的小和尚，向功夫的泰斗少林寺致敬。初登场的克林是悟空在龟仙流的同门师兄弟，也可以说是竞争对手。当时他给人的印象是坏坏的，老是想歪点子赢过悟空，而且还有些好色，和师傅龟仙人臭味相投。不过随着故事的发展，克林的性格逐渐变得和悟空一样正义而单纯（据声优推测是受悟空的影响吧），并且是在爱情上专一的好男人。他被弗利萨杀害时，悟空极度愤怒而变身为传说中的战士超级赛亚人。他在爱情上的付出也有所回报，娶到了心目中的女神18号。雅木茶则认为克林是最强的地球人。以上种种，均可见作者对这一角色之青睐。 Krillin (クリリン, Kuririn) is a bald martial artist and one of Goku's best friends and classmates. He and Goku are under the tutelage of Master Roshi; initially his rival but later a friend, and a loyal companion in adventures thereafter. He is killed by King Piccolo's spawn Tambourine, but is later revived by Shenron. After the fight with the Saiyans, he travels to Planet Namek, where he is killed by Frieza. After being brought back to life again by the Namekian Dragon Balls, he helps out during the Android and Cell arcs. He is married to Android 18 and has a daughter, Marron (マーロン, Māron).
Master Roshi 龟仙人

He is often accompanied by his talking sea turtle companion, Umigame (ウミガメ, "Sea Turtle"), who often tries to point out his flaws. Master Roshi was trained by Master Mutaito (武泰斗), who also trained his cohorts-turned-rival Tsuru-Sen'nin (鶴仙人, "Crane Hermit"); he has also received additional training from Korin. When he appears anonymously in the World Martial Arts Tournament, Master Roshi uses the name "Jackie Chun" (ジャッキー・チュン, Jakkī Chun), wears a wig, and discards his sunglasses.

Chi-Chi 琪琪
琪琪，日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。牛魔王的女儿、孙悟空的妻子。幼时与孙悟空在火焰山相遇，并定下婚约。后在第23届天下第一武道会上与已成年的孙悟空重逢并完婚，婚后育有两子—孙悟饭、孙悟天。婚后的琪琪成为典型的教育型妈妈，但依然有着贤妻良母的一面。
Chi-Chi (チチ) is Goku's wife, Gohan and Goten's mother, and Pan's grandmother. She and Goku first meet as children when her father, the Ox-King, asks Goku to take her to Master Roshi's house. In a misunderstanding, Goku promises to marry her. Years later, she confronts him about his promise at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, and they get married. As the matriarch of the family, she is depicted as being overprotective of Gohan's well-being and wishes to interrupt Goku's lifestyle of fighting and constant conflict. She relaxes her stance with her younger son Goten, even training him herself.
Oolong 乌龙
乌龙（日文名：乌龙、英文名：Uron、又译：小八戒），日本漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。外型是一只小猪，动物型地球人。该角色根据《西游记》中的猪八戒为原型及中国茶叶乌龙茶命名
Oolong (ウーロン, Ūron), named Mao-Mao in the Harmony Gold dub, is a shapeshifting, anthropomorphic pig that uses his abilities for his greedy desires. He and Puar went to the same shapeshifting school together before he was expelled for stealing the teacher's panties; as such, he can only change his form for five minutes at a time, requiring a one-minute break afterwards. Oolong joins Goku and Bulma to search for the Dragon Balls and eventually steal them but abandons this plan. He makes the first shown wish with the Dragon Balls: a pair of panties. Oolong plays a minor role as the series progresses, where he is often in the company of Master Roshi.
Korin 猫仙人
猫仙人，本名卡林，日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。性情和蔼，虽然外形是一只猫，但其实是年纪超过八百岁的仙猫，学识渊博。居住在圣地卡林塔，曾经指导孙悟空修业，并一直提供仙豆帮助悟空对抗邪恶势力。
Karin (カリン), known as Korin in the Ocean and Funimation dubs and Whiskers the Wonder Cat in the Harmony Gold dub, is a Senbyō (仙猫, immortal cat) who is at least 800 years old when he is introduced in Dragon Ball. He is a minor deity who lives at the top of Karin Tower (カリン塔, Karin-tō), which is situated underneath Kami's lookout; a warrior named Bora (ボラ) and his son Upa (ウパ) live at the base of the tower and serve as its guardians. He trained Master Roshi for three years and gave him the Kinto'un (筋斗雲) and the Nyoi-bō (如意棒) ("Nimbus" and "Power Pole" in the English anime dub respectively), both of which are later passed on to Goku. Korin trains Goku after his defeat by Mercenary Tao, and gives him poisoned water from the gods to make him strong enough to beat King Piccolo. He is responsible for deeming people worthy of meeting Kami; Goku is the first human he has ever deemed worthy. He helps Goku and his friends by growing Senzu Beans (仙豆, Senzu, lit. "Hermit Bean"), which can fully heal any injuries and fatigue instantly.
Yajirobe 亚奇洛贝
弥次郎兵卫（ヤジロベー，Yajirobe）是日本著名漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。有着高超的剑术，这个带着武士刀的胖子在这个异想天开的故事中却是个举足轻重的人物，总是能在孙悟空最危险的时候救他一命，可以说他是孙悟空最重要的贵人。
Yajirobe (ヤジロベー, Yajirobē) is an overweight samurai that is often considered to be rude, unmannered, timid, lazy, and cowardly. During their first meeting, Yajirobe gets mad at Goku for stealing his fish, but has a change of heart and helps Goku after he is defeated by King Piccolo, taking him to Korin's to be healed. Yajirobe continues to support Goku and his companions mostly from the sidelines. He was originally a wanderer that lived off the land, but lives with Korin after meeting him. He grows Senzu Beans and delivers them to Goku and his companions. When Goku fights Vegeta for the first time, Yajirobe cuts off Vegeta's tail to turn him back to normal. After this story arc, Yajirobe only makes brief appearances. When Krillin died, Toriyama requested that Yajirobe be voiced by his voice actress Mayumi Tanaka. When Yajirobe and Krillin later appeared in the same scene together, Tanaka gave the former a Nagoya dialect in order to distinguish them.
Icarus
Icarus, known as Hire Dragon (ハイヤードラゴン Haiyā Doragon) in the original Japanese version and uncut Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, is one of Gohan's closest non-humanoid friends. A young lilac coloured dragon. He has large innocent looking green eyes, a set of small wings that despite his overall size allow him to fly at fast speeds, and a set of protruding horns that come out the top of his head and also from the side of his face.
Bardock 巴达克
巴达克（バーダック/Burdock），日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。主角孙悟空的父亲，是赛亚人的下级战士，在《龙珠Z》的TVSP《一夫当关的最后决战》中曾经在入侵卡娜沙星时，被侥幸生还的战士杜阿洛用幻魔拳攻击而具有预知能力，后来预知到弗利萨会毁灭贝吉塔行星，便叫上其他赛亚人一起去对付弗利萨，不过其他人拒绝后，便单独向弗利萨军团挑战，最后连同贝吉塔行星一起被弗利萨毁灭（在OVA《龙珠巴达克之章》回到了过去的贝吉塔行星并变成了超级赛亚人）。在鸟山明漫画《龙珠负》以及动画电影《龙珠超：布罗利》中，情节与TVSP不同，在外星执行任务的巴达克接到召集命令后返回贝吉塔行星，曾得到与弗利萨合作的希塔军首领埃莱克的警告，猜想弗利萨要对赛亚人动手，和妻子姬内一起将三岁的卡卡罗特送往地球。
Bardock (バーダック Bādakku) is a low-class Saiyan warrior, the husband of Gine, and the father of Raditz and Goku. He makes his debut as the titular protagonist of the 1990 TV special Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku. Bardock's childhood until his early years in adulthood is unknown, but he is shown to lead his own squad into battle, and they are very successful in accomplishing their assignments. He is an adept fighter and a devoted Saiyan Army soldier under the Frieza Force until he realizes his tyrannical boss plans to annihilate the Saiyan race.
Frieza 弗利沙
弗利萨，日本漫画家鸟山明经典作品《龙珠》中的那美克星篇的主要反派角色，战斗力十分强大，大头目级人物。自称是最强的宇宙帝王，收服了大量的手下，所占领的资源丰富的星球超过百个，并借助外星高科技制造宇宙飞船用于军事侵略，挑选的部队都是精英战士。由于害怕超级赛亚人的出现，毁灭了贝吉塔行星，几乎令赛亚人灭绝。后来通过探测器听到了贝吉塔跟那巴的对话得知那美克星有龙珠可以实现愿望，便出发去那美克星夺取龙珠企图实现长生不老的愿望。但是在到达那美克星后不久，手下逐个被贝吉塔及孙悟空等人杀死，亲自出手时展示三段变身的能力让所有人感到绝望，由于杀死了克林令孙悟空极度愤怒觉醒变成超级赛亚人，经过一番激战终于被孙悟空打败。濒死之际被父亲库尔德王救回并被改造成机械形态，随后带着他父亲进攻地球，那个时候他的实力得了极大的提升。结果弗利萨和父亲以及带的士兵全部被未来特兰克斯杀死。艾纪779年，剧场版《龙珠Z：复活的F》中，弗利萨被其残党领导者索尔贝以及塔格玛用龙珠复活，复活后通过修炼变成黄金弗利萨，带领大军前往地球复仇。他与变身成超蓝的孙悟空展开激战，并一度压倒悟空，最后还是被孙悟空用龟派气功消灭。《龙珠超》宇宙生存篇中暂时复活并代表第7宇宙参战“力之大会”，最终第7宇宙取得胜利，弗利萨因比赛有功被天使维斯复活，后续在异次元空间修炼十年获得全新形态。
Frieza (フリーザ Furīza) is the main antagonist of the Dragon Ball series. He is the descendant of Chilled, the youngest son of King Cold, the younger brother of Cooler and the father of Kuriza. After inheriting Cold's imperialist army and rising to power as the emperor of Universe 7, Frieza quickly established himself as a cruel and ruthless tyrant, feared for his immense power. Ever since his invasion of Namek, Frieza has been the series' most recurring villain, clashing with his archnemesis Goku and his allies on several occasions, becoming even more powerful every time.
Neiz 内兹
“古拉机甲队”队员。皮肤，骨骼都异常柔软，头部可以回缩进胸膛，手足可以伸长。体内拥有发电器官，从全身发出高压电流，但是高压电最后被比克回击导致毙命。
Neiz (ネイズ Neizu, lit. "Naise") is a member of Cooler's Armored Squadron under the Cooler Force. He accompanies Cooler along with the rest of his team to Earth in the hunt for the Saiyan that defeated Frieza. Neiz is a tall, brown reptilian humanoid. He has big yellow eyes, pointy ears, he wears the same upper body armor as his comrades, and he has a partial purple jumpsuit that covers his torso to his thighs. Neiz wears a blue scouter that is connected to a head strap.
Dore 德雷
“古拉机甲队”队员。拥有非常强壮的身体。由于其特殊的体型，他的探测器被设计为和头盔一体成型。在追击悟饭的过程中被比克发出的跟踪能量弹消灭。和基纽特战队的利库姆有相似的战斗风格。
Dore (ドーレ Dōre) is a member of Cooler's Armored Squadron under the Cooler Force. He accompanies Cooler along with the rest of his team to Earth in the hunt for the Saiyan that defeated Frieza. Dore is a large, green-skinned humanoid alien with long black hair similar to Raditz. He wears the same upper body armor as his comrades, a white helmet with a brown center, and he is equipped with a yellow Scouter. Dore does not wear any lower body armor, save for purple underwear.
Salza 沙维扎
古拉的“古拉机甲部队”队长，在队伍中充当着leader的角色。随古拉前往地球复仇，后死于短笛之手。
Salza (サウザー Sauzā, lit. "Sauzer") is Cooler's top henchman and the captain of Cooler's Armored Squadron under the Cooler Force. He accompanies Cooler along with the rest of his team to Earth in the hunt for the Saiyan that defeated Frieza. Salza is a turquoise humanoid alien, with short blond hair that is curled to the left almost like Trunks. He wears the same upper body armor as his comrades, and he dons a full-length body suit that is purple (in most appearances) or yellow (in Fusion Reborn) in color. Being of the Brench-seijin, Salza has several similarities in appearance to Jeice.
Cooler 古拉
弗利萨的哥哥，比弟弟弗利萨多一次变身，与弗利萨一样，古拉的性格同样傲慢比较自负，同时，更为智慧、冷静，懂得反省。在手下中有较大威望。为了替弗利萨报仇而来到地球攻击孙悟空。但是跟弟弟一样小看了超级赛亚人的能力，最后连同自己的能源球被悟空一起轰向太阳而落败。
Cooler (クウラ Kūra, lit. "Coora") is the eldest son of King Cold and Frieza's older brother. The boss of the Cooler Force division, he is just as cruel as the rest of his family and was the first known member of his family to discover a transformation beyond his race's true form. Cooler is the titular main antagonist in Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge. An emulation of him known as Meta-Cooler acts as the main antagonist in Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler.
Cooler - Fourth Transformation 古拉第四形态
The Fourth Transformation (第４変身 Dai Yon Henshin) is a super evolution transformation taken on by members of the Frieza Race. This form allows the user to ascend beyond their true forms. It is a fourth Transforming Ability, which increases the user's combat capabilities instead of lessening them. The transformation causes the user's offensive and defensive power to increase.
