Dragon Ball: The Path to Power (ドラゴンボール 最さい強きょうへの道みち Doragon Bōru Saikyō e no Michi), also known as Dragon Ball: The Way to the Strongest, is the 17th Japanese animated feature film based on the Dragon Ball manga, following the first three Dragon Ball films and, at the time, thirteen Dragon Ball Z films. It is a re-telling of the original Dragon Ball anime series such as Goku first meeting Bulma, Master Roshi, Oolong and Yamcha. It was produced by Toei Animation to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Dragon Ball franchise. It was originally released to theaters in Japan on March 2, 1996. It was dubbed into English by Funimation Entertainment and released on April 29, 2003.

Yamcha 饮茶

He becomes nervous when near women. He eventually becomes Goku's ally, starts a relationship with Bulma, and later becomes a pupil of Master Roshi. His signature attack is the Rōgafūfūken (狼牙風風拳, "Fist of the Wolf Fang", renamed to "Wolf Fang Fist" in the Funimation dub), a physical barrage of punches and palm strikes, ending with a double palm strike. As a result of training under Master Roshi, Yamcha is able to perform the Kamehameha and develops the Sōkidan (繰気弾, "Spinning Chi Bullet"), an energy sphere directed by psychokinesis. He also later trains under Kami to prepare for the impending Saiyan invasion, but is killed by one of their Saibamen. Before being wished back to life by the Namekian Dragon Balls, he trained under King Kai in the afterlife. He remains as a regular member of the Dragon Team, but gradually becomes less active later in the series. Staff Officer Black (ブラック参謀 Burakku Sanbō) is an assistant of Commander Red, and is not given much of a role until the near end of the Commander Red Saga. Black carries out Commander Red's orders and informs Commander Red of the current situations with the remaining Red Ribbon Army officers until late in the story where he becomes Commander Black upon killing Red and usurping his position.

Son Goku 孙悟空

Originally sent to Earth by his parents as an infant, Kakarot was adopted by Grandpa Gohan and given the name Son Goku. Bulma (ブルマ, Buruma) first appears as a teenager using the Dragon Radar, a fictional device she created to detect the energy signal emitted by Dragon Balls. She is led to Goku's location by the signal emitted by the four-star ball in his possession and recruits him as a bodyguard while hoping to get his four-star ball to grant her wish for a boyfriend. She gives up on the wish after meeting Yamcha, and much later in the series, she marries Vegeta. Bulma has also assumed the role of inventor and has consistently provided critical tech support to Goku and his friends in their battles against various enemies and threats throughout the series. Some of her notable innovations include a microband that could make her shrink and a time machine that brought her son from an alternate future timeline, Trunks, to the past on multiple occasions.

Puar 普尔
（日文名：プーアル、英文名：PUARU）是日本经典漫画《龙珠》及其衍生动画《龙珠》《龙珠Z》《龙珠GT》《龙珠改》《龙珠超》等作品中的配角，该角色根据中国普洱茶命名，由渡边菜生子配音。动物型地球人、超能力者。曾与乌龙共同就读于南部变身幼稚园，后与雅木茶成为好伙伴，在沙漠中遇到寻找龙珠的孙悟空与布尔玛等人，并与其成为好朋友。
Pu'ar (プーアル, Pūaru), Puar in the Funimation anime dub, Pu-erh in their subtitles, and named Squeakers in the Harmony Gold dub, is a soft-spoken blue creature and Yamcha's companion. Puar's abilities consist of levitation and shapeshifting. He and Oolong went to the same shapeshifting school together, where he was constantly mocked by Oolong. When first introduced, he and Yamcha operate as bandits in a desert, where they encounter Goku, Bulma, and Oolong. At first they tail and assist the group in order to steal the Dragon Balls they are collecting, though they later reform and befriend the trio. When Goku transforms into a giant ape for the first time in the series, Puar transforms into a pair of scissors and cuts off his tail to turn him back to his regular state. Together with Upa, Puar defeats Dracula Man while competing in Baba Uranai's tournament. The character's name is a pun on pu'er tea and was designed to slightly resemble a cat.
Oolong 乌龙
乌龙（日文名：乌龙、英文名：Uron、又译：小八戒），日本漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。外型是一只小猪，动物型地球人。该角色根据《西游记》中的猪八戒为原型及中国茶叶乌龙茶命名
Oolong (ウーロン, Ūron), named Mao-Mao in the Harmony Gold dub, is a shapeshifting, anthropomorphic pig that uses his abilities for his greedy desires. He and Puar went to the same shapeshifting school together before he was expelled for stealing the teacher's panties; as such, he can only change his form for five minutes at a time, requiring a one-minute break afterwards. Oolong joins Goku and Bulma to search for the Dragon Balls and eventually steal them but abandons this plan. He makes the first shown wish with the Dragon Balls: a pair of panties. Oolong plays a minor role as the series progresses, where he is often in the company of Master Roshi.
Kame 乌龟
Turtle (ウミガメ Umigame, lit. "Sea Turtle") is Master Roshi's friend and long-time companion. The good-natured, lovable turtle lives in Kame House with the elderly hermit.
Shenron 神龙

Shénlóng (神龍, Shenron, lit. "Dragon God"), Shenron in Funimation's anime dub, also known as the Eternal Dragon in the Ocean and Funimation dubs and as the Dragon God in the Harmony Gold dub, is the wish-granting dragon summoned when all seven of Earth's Dragon Balls are gathered together. Throughout the series, several rules on the Dragon Balls' use and limitations on Shenron's power are explained. After the wish is granted the balls scatter across the planet, turn to stone, are useless for a year, and cannot be detected by Bulma's Dragon Radar.
Commander Red 红总帅
红缎带军团的总帅，正确译名为红总帅。为人心狠手辣，因身材矮小，故命部下搜集龙珠实现自己增高的梦想。孙悟空进攻红缎带军团总部时，布拉克副官得知了黑元帅搜集龙珠的真正目的，被布拉克副官一枪击毙。
Commander Red (レッド総帥 Reddo Sōsui), born Red Ribon ((レッド・ライボン Reddo Raibon), is the dwarfen commander-in-chief of the most feared and ruthless militaristic crime organization: the Red Ribbon Army. After discovering that his enemy, Goku, has a much more sophisticated and superior Dragon Radar, he is angered at the fact that he invested so much in his radar and takes many wary chances only to be contested by a mere child. Commander Red is the main antagonist of most of the Red Ribbon Army Saga. Gero later developed a fully artificial replica of him named Android 9, which eventually came to act as the "leader" of the Red Pants Army.

General Blue (ブルー将軍, Burū-Shōgun) is the titular villain of the General Blue Saga arc in the original Dragon Ball series. One of the Red Ribbon Army's leaders and seemingly its most powerful member, Blue has special telekinetic abilities that allow him to paralyze other individuals and can also be used to control objects. He is a neat freak, and when he does not enjoy Bulma's attempts at seduction, she states that he is gay. He manages to steal the Dragon Radar during their final encounter but after returning to the army's headquarters is set to be executed for not obtaining any of the Dragon Balls after multiple failures. He is allowed to fight the hitman Mercenary Tao to redeem himself, though Tao easily kills Blue using only his tongue.
General White 怀特将军
红缎带军团的白队指挥官，又译白将军。穷凶极恶的中年男子，掌管着玛斯鲁塔，绑架当地村长且强逼村中的男人找寻龙珠，最后使用枪支打昏孙悟空，被愤怒的人造人8号打飞，生死未卜。General White (ホワイト将軍 Howaito Shōgun) is a secondary antagonist in the Dragon Ball manga, and the anime Dragon Ball. He is the commander of Muscle Tower which is the Red Ribbon Army's northern fortress.
Major Metallitron 阿诺中尉
红缎带军团的白队军曹，又译麦塔力克中士，机器人。外表酷似阿诺德·施瓦辛格饰演的“T800机器人”。右手可以脱离手臂给予敌人打击、嘴部可发射导弹。最后被孙悟空的龟派气功波击毁。
Major Metallitron, also known as Sergeant Metallic (メタリック軍曹 Metarikku Gunsō) in the original Japanese version, is an android created by the Red Ribbon Army, and Goku's second challenge in the Muscle Tower.

Colonel Violet (バイオレット大佐 Baioretto Taisa) is the only confirmed female officer in the Red Ribbon Army, although her appearance is very brief.

Although he is deployed against Goku as a weapon, Android 8 turns out to be kindhearted and dislikes fighting; he befriends Goku, defects from the Red Ribbon Army, and later lives peacefully with the locals of Jingle Village
