Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest (ドラゴンボールＺゼット この世よで一いち番ばん強つよいヤツ Doragon Bōru Zetto Kono Yo de Ichiban Tsuyoi Yatsu, lit. Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest Guy) also known as Dragon Ball Z: The Strongest Guy in the World, is the fifth Dragon Ball film and the second under the Dragon Ball Z banner.
It originally premiered on March 10, 1990 at the Toei Cartoon Festival (along with movies from the Akuma-kun and Sally the Witch series). It was first translated into English by Funimation through Ocean Productions in 1998. Funimation's subtitle is The World's Strongest, while AB Groupe's is The Strongest Guy in the World which was also used by Speedy.

Timeline placement
Due to Goku’s dōgi having a "Kame" mark on the breast and a "Kaio" mark on the back, this is an event from after the battle with Vegeta but before Goku's arrival on Planet Namek. Gohan has a flashback to when Piccolo defended him from Nappa's attack.

Son Goku 孙悟空
(日语：孫悟空；英语：Son Goku)，是鸟山明的原作漫画《龙珠》及其改编原作系列中登场的虚构角色与主角，名字来自中国古典神怪小说《西游记》的“孙悟空”。“孙”是姓，“悟空”是名。由养育之父孙悟饭授予，其赛亚人本名为:卡卡罗特。其他纯种赛亚人直接称之为卡卡罗特。名字的由来是从红萝卜（胡萝卜）。与他的爱妻琪琪一起生下的长子的名字，是当年拉拔悟空长大的爷爷，孙悟饭的名字。 Son Goku is a Saiyan raised on Earth and the overall main protagonist of the Dragon Ball series. He is Bardock and Gine's youngest son, the husband of Chi-Chi, and the father of Gohan and Goten. Son Goku is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama. He is based on Sun Wukong (known as Son Goku in Japan and Monkey King in the West), a main character of the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, combined with influences from the Hong Kong martial arts films of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. Originally sent to Earth by his parents as an infant, Kakarot was adopted by Grandpa Gohan and given the name Son Goku. A head injury at an early age altered Goku's memory, ridding him of his initial destructive nature and allowing him to grow up to become one of Earth's greatest defenders. Goku constantly strives and trains to be the greatest warrior possible, which has kept the Earth and the universe safe from destruction multiple times.
Son Gohan 孙悟饭
孙悟饭是鸟山明的经典作品《龙珠》中的主要人物，是主角孙悟空的长子。拥有强大的潜能，但是性格不像父亲一样好战。自幼在母亲琪琪的教导下勤奋地读书，梦想是成为一名学者。性格善良勇敢，不太喜欢战斗，可愤怒时便会发挥强大的力量。小时候肩负着打败赛亚人保护地球的重任，仅4岁就被迫离开家庭，在荒野跟随比克修炼，建立了深厚的感情。后来又到那美克星与宇宙帝王弗利萨战斗，曾在愤怒状态下把二次变身的弗利萨打得毫无还手之力，逼弗利萨完成最后一次变身。人造人来袭时跟悟空到精神时光屋修练，在极度愤怒下变成超级赛亚人2击败终极人造人沙鲁，七年后又在和魔人布欧战斗中被老界王神引发全部潜力。在魔人布欧一战结束后，和高中同学比迪丽结婚，并专心治学，过着平静的生活。10年后如愿成为学者，并育有一女小芳。未来时空的孙悟饭死于未来17号、未来18号联手。
Son Gohan (孫そん悟ご飯はん Son Gohan, Japanese pronunciation: [sõŋgohãɴ]) is a half-breed Saiyan and one of the most prominent characters in the Dragon Ball series. He is the elder son of the series' primary protagonist Goku and his wife Chi-Chi, the older brother of Goten, the husband of Videl and father to Pan. He is named after Goku's adoptive grandfather, Gohan. Unlike his father, Gohan is a brilliant scholar and lacks a passion for fighting, preferring to do so only when his loved ones are threatened. Nevertheless, he spends much of his life participating in the defense of Earth, often helping to turn the tides when the dormant depths of his power are unleashed
Piccolo 比克
比克（日文名：ピッコロ、英文名：Piccolo），日本漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色，Z战士之一。由古川登志夫配音。来自那美克星的那美克星人，曾是企图征服世界的邪恶大魔王，将孙悟空视为宿敌，但随着孙悟空、孙悟饭父子对其之影响，内心逐渐产生改变，最终改邪归正并保护地球。 Piccolo (ピッコロ, Pikkoro) is the spawn of King Piccolo, created to get revenge on Goku in the wake of his death, and subsequently assumes the role as the "evil half" of Kami. However, after being narrowly defeated by Goku, he must team up with him and his friends when opposing the invading Saiyans, including training Goku's son Gohan. He is later revealed to be a Namekian—a green-skinned, four-fingered, hairless humanoid species who created the series' titular Dragon Balls. He dies sacrificing himself to protect Gohan during the fight against the Saiyan Nappa, and trains in the afterlife under King Kai before being wished back to life by the Namekian Dragon Balls. While he temporarily maintains the partnership during the fights with Frieza and the Androids, by the time of the Cell and Majin Buu arcs he accepts the fact they are allies.
Shenron 神龙
Krillin 克林
(クリリン；英语：Kuririn)，是日本漫画作家鸟山明在集英社《周刊少年Jump》连载的《龙珠》虚构角色。一颗光头，没有鼻子，矮小的身材，克林是一个造型简单的人物。作者的创作初衷似乎在设计一位标准的小和尚，向功夫的泰斗少林寺致敬。初登场的克林是悟空在龟仙流的同门师兄弟，也可以说是竞争对手。当时他给人的印象是坏坏的，老是想歪点子赢过悟空，而且还有些好色，和师傅龟仙人臭味相投。不过随着故事的发展，克林的性格逐渐变得和悟空一样正义而单纯（据声优推测是受悟空的影响吧），并且是在爱情上专一的好男人。他被弗利萨杀害时，悟空极度愤怒而变身为传说中的战士超级赛亚人。他在爱情上的付出也有所回报，娶到了心目中的女神18号。雅木茶则认为克林是最强的地球人。以上种种，均可见作者对这一角色之青睐。 Krillin (クリリン, Kuririn) is a bald martial artist and one of Goku's best friends and classmates. He and Goku are under the tutelage of Master Roshi; initially his rival but later a friend, and a loyal companion in adventures thereafter. He is killed by King Piccolo's spawn Tambourine, but is later revived by Shenron. After the fight with the Saiyans, he travels to Planet Namek, where he is killed by Frieza. After being brought back to life again by the Namekian Dragon Balls, he helps out during the Android and Cell arcs. He is married to Android 18 and has a daughter, Marron (マーロン, Māron).
Master Roshi 龟仙人

He trained Grandpa Gohan and Ox-King, Goku, and Krillin, and a few others. He is often accompanied by his talking sea turtle companion, Umigame (ウミガメ, "Sea Turtle"), who often tries to point out his flaws. Master Roshi was trained by Master Mutaito (武泰斗), who also trained his cohorts-turned-rival Tsuru-Sen'nin (鶴仙人, "Crane Hermit"); he has also received additional training from Korin. When he appears anonymously in the World Martial Arts Tournament, Master Roshi uses the name "Jackie Chun" (ジャッキー・チュン, Jakkī Chun), wears a wig, and discards his sunglasses.

Bulma 布马

Bulma (ブルマ, Buruma) first appears as a teenager using the Dragon Radar, a fictional device she created to detect the energy signal emitted by Dragon Balls. She is led to Goku's location by the signal emitted by the four-star ball in his possession and recruits him as a bodyguard while hoping to get his four-star ball to grant her wish for a boyfriend. She gives up on the wish after meeting Yamcha, and much later in the series, she marries Vegeta. Bulma has also assumed the role of inventor and has consistently provided critical tech support to Goku and his friends in their battles against various enemies and threats throughout the series. Some of her notable innovations include a microband that could make her shrink and a time machine that brought her son from an alternate future timeline, Trunks, to the past on multiple occasions.
Chi-Chi 琪琪
琪琪，日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。牛魔王的女儿、孙悟空的妻子。幼时与孙悟空在火焰山相遇，并定下婚约。后在第23届天下第一武道会上与已成年的孙悟空重逢并完婚，婚后育有两子—孙悟饭、孙悟天。婚后的琪琪成为典型的教育型妈妈，但依然有着贤妻良母的一面。
Chi-Chi (チチ) is Goku's wife, Gohan and Goten's mother, and Pan's grandmother. She and Goku first meet as children when her father, the Ox-King, asks Goku to take her to Master Roshi's house. In a misunderstanding, Goku promises to marry her. Years later, she confronts him about his promise at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, and they get married. As the matriarch of the family, she is depicted as being overprotective of Gohan's well-being and wishes to interrupt Goku's lifestyle of fighting and constant conflict. She relaxes her stance with her younger son Goten, even training him herself.
Oolong 乌龙
乌龙（日文名：乌龙、英文名：Uron、又译：小八戒），日本漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。外型是一只小猪，动物型地球人。该角色根据《西游记》中的猪八戒为原型及中国茶叶乌龙茶命名
Oolong (ウーロン, Ūron), named Mao-Mao in the Harmony Gold dub, is a shapeshifting, anthropomorphic pig that uses his abilities for his greedy desires. He and Puar went to the same shapeshifting school together before he was expelled for stealing the teacher's panties; as such, he can only change his form for five minutes at a time, requiring a one-minute break afterwards. Oolong joins Goku and Bulma to search for the Dragon Balls and eventually steal them but abandons this plan. He makes the first shown wish with the Dragon Balls: a pair of panties. Oolong plays a minor role as the series progresses, where he is often in the company of Master Roshi.
Kame 乌龟
Turtle (ウミガメ Umigame, lit. "Sea Turtle") is Master Roshi's friend and long-time companion. The good-natured, lovable turtle lives in Kame House with the elderly hermit.
Shenron 神龙
神龙，日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。传说，世界上散落着7颗龙珠，各有一至七颗不等的五角星标记，集齐7颗龙珠念出咒语，就能召唤神龙，并能向其许一个愿望神龙实现愿望后，7颗龙珠便会自动飞散，变成石头，一年后才可再次使用。《龙珠超》追加新设定：龙珠因制造者的能力，龙珠数量也是不定的；超级龙珠和地球龙珠不一样。
Shénlóng (神龍, Shenron, lit. "Dragon God"), Shenron in Funimation's anime dub, also known as the Eternal Dragon in the Ocean and Funimation dubs and as the Dragon God in the Harmony Gold dub, is the wish-granting dragon summoned when all seven of Earth's Dragon Balls are gathered together. Throughout the series, several rules on the Dragon Balls' use and limitations on Shenron's power are explained. After the wish is granted the balls scatter across the planet, turn to stone, are useless for a year, and cannot be detected by Bulma's Dragon Radar.
Bio-Men
Bio-Men (バイオマン Baioman) are disposable warriors utilized by the scientists Dr. Wheelo and Dr. Kochin, when they initiate some of their plans. Bio-Men heavily resemble dark gray and blue Saibamen, though they have distinctly different beady red eyes and birdlike faces, in addition to black claws and talons.
Dr. Kochin
Dr. Kochin (Ｄｒ．ドクター・コーチン Dokutā Kōchin) is Dr. Wheelo's assistant and a self-professed expert in biotechnology. Dr. Kochin is the definition of a mad scientist, a man who is more interested in creating his own experiments despite the danger to the world that they carry instead of using his intellect and resources for mankind's benefit. In Dokkan Battle, he refers to himself with the epitaph Demonic Scientist indicating he fully embraces his evil nature and suggests he is infamous for his evil experiments something which he is quite proud of. He is also willing to team up with fellow Android Scientist Dr. Gero and his remaining Red Ribbon Androids to take on Future Trunks and the Time Patrol in the dimensional distorted version of Earth.
Kishime
Kishime (キシーメ Kishīme) is one of the three Brutal Warriors created by Dr. Kochin that serve Dr. Wheelo. A truly hideous entity, Kishime is vaguely reptilian with green skin, pointed ears, and dorsal fins down his back, and is the smallest of the Dr. Kochin's three bio-fighters. He has the ability to sprout Electric Whips from his arms and chest, which can be used to shock an opponent.
Ebifurya
Ebifurya (エビフリャー Ebifuryā) is one of the three Brutal Warriors created by Dr. Kochin that serve Dr. Wheelo. A large, pink brute with red hair tied back in a ponytail.
Misokatsun
Misokatsun (ミソカッツン Misokattsun) is one of the three Brutal Warriors created by Dr. Kochin who serve Dr. Wheelo in Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest. Easily the most unusual looking of the three, Misokatsun is an enormous yellow ball of putty with a mechanical interior, and while he looks sluggish, he is actually quite fast and sports large claws.

Dr. Wheelo (Ｄｒ．ドクターウイロー Dokutā Uirō), alternatively known as Dr. W (Ｄｒ．ドクターダブリュー Dokutā Daburyū) or Dr. Willow, is a scientist who performs experiments in biotechnology. He is the main antagonist of Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest. He later appears as a secondary antagonist in Super Dragon Ball Heroes. Dr. Wheelo was originally supposed to have organs besides his brain in the cockpit, but it was eventually decided to just make his brain larger. His brain being twice the size of a human head caused the Daizenshuu 6 authors to speculate that Wheelo's brain "evolved".
