Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Part of the Dragon Ball media franchise, it is the sequel to the 1986 Dragon Ball anime series and adapts the latter 325 chapters of the original Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama. The series aired in Japan on Fuji TV from April 1989 to January 1996 and was later dubbed for broadcast in at least 81 countries worldwide. Dragon Ball Z continues the adventures of Goku in his adult life as he and his companions defend the Earth against villains including aliens (Vegeta, Frieza), androids (Cell), and magical creatures (Majin Buu). At the same time, the story parallels the life of his son, Gohan, as well as the development of his rivals, Piccolo and Vegeta. Due to the success of the anime in the United States, the manga chapters making up its story were initially released by Viz Media under the Dragon Ball Z title. The anime's popularity has also spawned numerous media and merchandise that has come to represent the majority of content within the Dragon Ball franchise. Dragon Ball Z remains a cultural icon through numerous adaptations and re-releases, including a remastered broadcast titled Dragon Ball Z Kai. Dragon Ball Z has since been followed by two sequel series: Dragon Ball GT (1996–1997) and Dragon Ball Super (2015–2018).

Androids Saga
The Androids Saga (人じん造ぞう人にん間げん編へん Jinzōningen Hen, lit. "Artificial Humans Arc") is the eighth saga in the Dragon Ball Z series. The manga volumes that it is made up of are "The Red Ribbon Androids" and the first part of "Rise of the Machines". It features Androids 16-19 and their creator Dr. Gero (also known as Android 20) who wreak havoc on the world. It occurs between the Trunks Saga and the Imperfect Cell Saga.

那美克星爆炸后，弗利萨兵团将他的残肢的修复，以机械弗利萨的身份重新脱胎换骨，为了向悟空复仇而来到地球。没想到出现来自未来的特兰克斯，并将弗利萨兵团全数消灭。未来的特兰克斯传达三年后黑绸军的人造人17号及18号破坏的事情，以及心脏病的解药后，战士们各自开始修行。三年后人造人19号和20号出现并且与悟空等人展开战斗，此时悟空因心脏病发而败退。19号被贝吉塔破坏，20号逃到研究所因为启动不听命的16号、17号和18号而丧命。

Android 19 (人造人間１９号 Jinzōningen Jū Kyū-Gō, lit. "Artificial Human No. 19") is Dr. Gero's nineteenth creation, designed to serve Gero's vendetta against Goku, who overthrew the Red Ribbon Army as a child. He is the secondary antagonist of the Androids Saga. Android 19's appearance consists of completely white skin, two dangling earrings, extra-large orange pants, an extra-large banana white strap-on vest, a broad red sash, and an orange pointed hat with a Red Ribbon Army logo on the front. He is overweight and has pointed, light blue cold eyes. Underneath his hat is a domed glass cranium, similar to that of Android 20 but with a pinkish color and an entirely mechanical brain housed inside.

Dr. Gero (ドクター・ゲロ Dokutā Gero, lit. "Doctor Gero"), also known as Android 20 (人造人間２０号 Jinzōningen Niju-Gō, lit. "Artificial Human No. 20"), is a major supporting antagonist in the Dragon Ball franchise, appearing in the Dragon Ball manga and the animes Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. He is a genius scientist who is the mastermind behind the Red Ribbon Androids, chief amongst them the bio-organic Cell. Dr. Gero is the main antagonist of the Androids Saga. Dr. Gero's appearance consists of slightly tanned skin, blue eyes, a large bushy white mustache, and long hair. He also has a Red Ribbon Army logo located on the hat that hides his visible brain after he turns himself into an android. Dr. Gero's mechanical body also lacks the eyebrows he had in his old, organic form, instead having a pronounced brow. His clothing is black, with orange sections at the upper arms, and light yellow sleeves at the lower arms. His pants are dark brown, and his shoes are black and white.

He was initially designed to serve Gero's vendetta against Goku, who overthrew the Red Ribbon Army as a child but is later deemed unfit for activation. Android 16 is easily the tallest of all Androids in the entire "Dragon Ball" franchise, towering at over double the heights of Androids 18 and 17. He has icy blue eyes, a red/orange mohawk, and gold hoop earrings. His clothing consists of a dark undersuit, with a lime green vest, boots, and bracers. A small Red Ribbon Army logo is sewn to the left side of his vest, indicating his creator's affiliation. This presumptively changes when 16 is taken to Dr. Brief to be repaired; the logo is patched by the Capsule Corp. logo after he joins the Z-Fighters. His physical appearance is based on Dr. Gero's son Gevo, a high-ranking Red Ribbon Army soldier codenamed "Gold" who was killed in action by an enemy bullet sometime before the army's destruction at the hands of Goku.

Android 18 (人じん造ぞう人にん間げん１８号ごう Jinzōningen Jū Hachi-Gō), originally named Lazuli (ラズリ Razuri) when she was an ordinary human, is the older twin sister of Android 17 and Dr. Gero's eighteenth android creation, designed to serve Gero's vendetta against Goku. While her interests do not initially deviate from this expectation, her curiosity to activate Android 16, in spite of Gero's orders not to do so, leads Android 17 to take it upon himself to rebel and murder Gero. Eventually, Android 18 becomes a member of the Z Fighters, as well as the wife of Krillin and the mother of their daughter Marron.
