Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Part of the Dragon Ball media franchise, it is the sequel to the 1986 Dragon Ball anime series and adapts the latter 325 chapters of the original Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama. The series aired in Japan on Fuji TV from April 1989 to January 1996 and was later dubbed for broadcast in at least 81 countries worldwide. Dragon Ball Z continues the adventures of Goku in his adult life as he and his companions defend the Earth against villains including aliens (Vegeta, Frieza), androids (Cell), and magical creatures (Majin Buu). At the same time, the story parallels the life of his son, Gohan, as well as the development of his rivals, Piccolo and Vegeta. Due to the success of the anime in the United States, the manga chapters making up its story were initially released by Viz Media under the Dragon Ball Z title. The anime's popularity has also spawned numerous media and merchandise that has come to represent the majority of content within the Dragon Ball franchise. Dragon Ball Z remains a cultural icon through numerous adaptations and re-releases, including a remastered broadcast titled Dragon Ball Z Kai. Dragon Ball Z has since been followed by two sequel series: Dragon Ball GT (1996–1997) and Dragon Ball Super (2015–2018).

Garlic Jr. Saga
The Garlic Jr. Saga (ガーリックＪｒジュニア編 Gārikku Junia Hen, lit. "Garlic Junior Arc") is the sixth saga in the Dragon Ball Z series. This saga is entirely filler material written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa, and is not present in the original Dragon Ball manga by Akira Toriyama. It occurs between the Frieza Saga and the Trunks Saga. Garlic Jr.'s story is based on events of the movie Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone. In Dead Zone, Garlic Jr. is defeated by Goku's four-year-old son, Gohan, showing Gohan's incredible talent for fighting. The saga details Garlic Jr.'s return and his desire for revenge, and with Goku and Vegeta absent, it is left up to the Z-Fighters to counter him alone.

Garlic Jr. (ガーリックＪｒジュニア Gārikku Junia, lit. "Garlic Junior") is the main antagonist in Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone. Though he was defeated in Dead Zone, he reappears as the main antagonist in the Garlic Jr. Saga.
Spice
Spice, known as Gasshu (ガッシュ Gasshu) in the original Japanese version, is the leader of the Spice Boys, and Garlic Jr.'s right-hand man during the Garlic Jr. Saga. Spice is a tall Makyan with cyan skin, center parted and spiky white hair, long pointed ears and almond-colored eyes. He wears pink upper body armor with pauldrons, a dark purple leotard with a tall open collar and an abdomen window revealing his abs and bears a long yellow cape. He also wears pink bracers with white edges and pink boots with white armored tips.
Vinegar
Vinegar (ビネガー Binegā) is a member of the Spice Boys. He is a large, muscular Makyan with light purple skin, white horns, long pointed ears, and long dark brown hair. He wears a beige Mongolian-style fur hat which looks like a cap of a condiment bottle (Salt also wears one, though bigger and brown in color). He wears a musk-green and dark blue upper body armor with a dark blue leotard with an abdomen window revealing his six pack. He also wears musk-green bracers with white edges and white boots with musk-green armored tips. He is the tallest and most muscular member of the Spice Boys.
Mustard
Mustard, known as Tard (タード Tādo) in the original Japanese version, is a member of the Spice Boys, working for Garlic Jr. during the Garlic Jr. Saga. Mustard is tall, muscular, brown-skinned and frog-faced humanoid alien who has long red hair - including a pair of long sideburn-like "braids" - and bull horns. His biceps have two small horn-like appendages at the outer sides. Just like his cronies, he wears a Frieza Force-style jacket which is a black "leotard" armor with light purple pectorals and upper back. He also dons gloves and boots in the same purple of his armor (the boots have toe tips in the same black from the armor).
Salt
Salt, known as Zold (ゾルド Zorudo) in the original Japanese version, is a member of the Spice Boys. Salt is a short, red humanoid Makyan with long pointed ears, whiskers, two small protruding fangs from the top of his mouth, and two small peduncle-like appendages coming out from both edges of his jawbone. He wears a brown Mongolian-style fur hat which looks like the cap of a condiment bottle (Vinegar also wears one, though smaller, beige in color, and adorned with a pair of small white horns) and a yellow fur collar which ends in a long "tail". He wears a battle jacket very similar to a Frieza Force soldier, which is black with light green shoulder guards and abdominal section. He wears a shirt under it that is the same shade of green. Salt also has white gloves, wears light blue pants, and has white and brown boots.
Maron
Maron (マロン Maron) is Krillin's ex-girlfriend. Maron is a slender and physically fit young woman of curvaceous frame with long blue hair and blue eyes and large breasts. She is commonly seen wearing a bright red dress with low-cut straps, white cuff socks, and white gym shoes, occasionally wearing a green military jacket over it. She also has pink nail polish. She also wears a yellow bathing suit for swimming, which is very small. During the latter portion of her stay at Korin's Tower, she was also seen wearing a short-skirted cheongsam.
Icarus
Icarus, known as Hire Dragon (ハイヤードラゴン Haiyā Doragon) in the original Japanese version and uncut Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, is one of Gohan's closest non-humanoid friends. A young lilac coloured dragon. He has large innocent looking green eyes, a set of small wings that despite his overall size allow him to fly at fast speeds, and a set of protruding horns that come out the top of his head and also from the side of his face.
Litts
The Litts (リット星人 Ritto-seijin) are a race of bird-like humanoid warriors from planet Litt who work for the Frieza Force.
Appule's race
Appule's race is an alien race belonging to the Frieza Force. They are octopus-like humanoids with different skin colors (purple, orange, yellow or green), and white or red eyes. Some members of the race have golden, red, dark, or purple spots on the arms, head and legs. Some have also been seen to have large fangs or horns.
Kami of the Previous Generation
The Kami of the Previous Generation (先代の神 Sendai no Kami, lit. "Predecessor of a God") is Kami's predecessor as the Guardian of Earth. The Unnamed Guardian is a strict, but loving person. He was cared for by Mr. Popo. He loves the world but hates evildoers. When he decides something, he hardly ever changes his mind. However, he does allow Kami and Mr. Popo use the Seven Air Currents to spread the Sacred Water over the Earth to cure those infected by the Black Water Mist despite them trespassing in the sacred Divine Sage Realm, showing that he recognizes that his successor and Mr. Popo only did so to protect the Earth and its inhabitants from Garlic Jr.'s evil influence.
