Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug (ドラゴンボールＺゼット　超スーパーサイヤ人じんだ孫そん悟ご空くう Doragon Bōru Zetto　Sūpā Saiya-jin da Son Gokū, lit. Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiyan Son Goku), also known as Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Son Goku, is the seventh Dragon Ball film and the fourth under the Dragon Ball Z banner.

It was originally released in Japan on March 9, 1991 and was later released in North America by Funimation in 2001. It is the first Dragon Ball Z movie to be dubbed with Funimation's English in-house voice cast (not counting the Ultimate Uncut edition of the previous movies). It was also the first movie which involved real-life American rock bands for its English release, with bands ranging from Finger Eleven to Dust for Life and more.

Timeline placement

Daizenshuu 6 notes that the movie takes place after Goku's arrival on Namek (at the time when he is in the midst of battle) but before the final showdown with Frieza, and Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan.

This film presumably takes place at least one year after the events of Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might; when Lord Slug is reading Bulma's mind, one of the images is Krillin, Bulma, and Oolong summoning Shenron with the outfits they wear at the beginning of The Tree of Might. Additionally, the dragon Icarus also appears in the film who was originally introduced in The Tree of Might.

He is Bardock and Gine's youngest son, the husband of Chi-Chi, and the father of Gohan and Goten. Son Goku is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama. He is based on Sun Wukong (known as Son Goku in Japan and Monkey King in the West), a main character of the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, combined with influences from the Hong Kong martial arts films of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. Originally sent to Earth by his parents as an infant, Kakarot was adopted by Grandpa Gohan and given the name Son Goku. A head injury at an early age altered Goku's memory, ridding him of his initial destructive nature and allowing him to grow up to become one of Earth's greatest defenders. Goku constantly strives and trains to be the greatest warrior possible, which has kept the Earth and the universe safe from destruction multiple times.

Son Gohan 孙悟饭

Son Gohan (孫そん悟ご飯はん Son Gohan, Japanese pronunciation: [sõŋgohãɴ]) is a half-breed Saiyan and one of the most prominent characters in the Dragon Ball series. He is the elder son of the series' primary protagonist Goku and his wife Chi-Chi, the older brother of Goten, the husband of Videl and father to Pan. He is named after Goku's adoptive grandfather, Gohan. Unlike his father, Gohan is a brilliant scholar and lacks a passion for fighting, preferring to do so only when his loved ones are threatened. Nevertheless, he spends much of his life participating in the defense of Earth, often helping to turn the tides when the dormant depths of his power are unleashed

Piccolo 比克

比克（日文名：ピッコロ、英文名：Piccolo），日本漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色，Z战士之一。由古川登志夫配音。来自那美克星的那美克星人，曾是企图征服世界的邪恶大魔王，将孙悟空视为宿敌，但随着孙悟空、孙悟饭父子对其之影响，内心逐渐产生改变，最终改邪归正并保护地球。 Piccolo (ピッコロ, Pikkoro) is the spawn of King Piccolo, created to get revenge on Goku in the wake of his death, and subsequently assumes the role as the "evil half" of Kami. However, after being narrowly defeated by Goku, he must team up with him and his friends when opposing the invading Saiyans, including training Goku's son Gohan. He is later revealed to be a Namekian—a green-skinned, four-fingered, hairless humanoid species who created the series' titular Dragon Balls. He dies sacrificing himself to protect Gohan during the fight against the Saiyan Nappa, and trains in the afterlife under King Kai before being wished back to life by the Namekian Dragon Balls. While he temporarily maintains the partnership during the fights with Frieza and the Androids, by the time of the Cell and Majin Buu arcs he accepts the fact they are allies.

Krillin 克林

(クリリン；英语：Kuririn)，是日本漫画作家鸟山明在集英社《周刊少年Jump》连载的《龙珠》虚构角色。一颗光头，没有鼻子，矮小的身材，克林是一个造型简单的人物。作者的创作初衷似乎在设计一位标准的小和尚，向功夫的泰斗少林寺致敬。初登场的克林是悟空在龟仙流的同门师兄弟，也可以说是竞争对手。当时他给人的印象是坏坏的，老是想歪点子赢过悟空，而且还有些好色，和师傅龟仙人臭味相投。不过随着故事的发展，克林的性格逐渐变得和悟空一样正义而单纯（据声优推测是受悟空的影响吧），并且是在爱情上专一的好男人。他被弗利萨杀害时，悟空极度愤怒而变身为传说中的战士超级赛亚人。他在爱情上的付出也有所回报，娶到了心目中的女神18号。雅木茶则认为克林是最强的地球人。以上种种，均可见作者对这一角色之青睐。 Krillin (クリリン, Kuririn) is a bald martial artist and one of Goku's best friends and classmates. He and Goku are under the tutelage of Master Roshi; initially his rival but later a friend, and a loyal companion in adventures thereafter. He is killed by King Piccolo's spawn Tambourine, but is later revived by Shenron. After the fight with the Saiyans, he travels to Planet Namek, where he is killed by Frieza. After being brought back to life again by the Namekian Dragon Balls, he helps out during the Android and Cell arcs. He is married to Android 18 and has a daughter, Marron (マーロン, Māron).

Master Roshi 龟仙人
龟仙人，日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。曾是世界第一的武道家，被世人称为”武术之神“。武学流派龟仙流的创始者、龟派气功之父、武术宗师武泰斗的得意弟子。表面上是一位色眯眯的老头，但实际上却是位敢于为消灭邪恶而牺牲自身性命的战士。于”短笛大魔王篇“后完全退居三线、将未来托付于新时代的战士们。后期的龟仙人已失去天下第一的美名，但”武术之神“的称谓依然流传着。 Kame-Sen'nin (亀仙人, "Turtle Hermit"), also known as Muten-Rōshi (武天老師, lit "Martial Arts Genius Master"), which is rendered as "Master Roshi" in the English versions, is a lecherous elderly martial arts master instructor that lives on a small island and is the inventor of the Kamehameha technique. He trained Grandpa Gohan and Ox-King, Goku, and Krillin, and a few others. He is often accompanied by his talking sea turtle companion, Umigame (ウミガメ, "Sea Turtle"), who often tries to point out his flaws. Master Roshi was trained by Master Mutaito (武泰斗), who also trained his cohorts-turned-rival Tsuru-Sen'nin (鶴仙人, "Crane Hermit"); he has also received additional training from Korin. When he appears anonymously in the World Martial Arts Tournament, Master Roshi uses the name "Jackie Chun" (ジャッキー・チュン, Jakkī Chun), wears a wig, and discards his sunglasses.


Bulma 布马

（日语：ブルマ；英语：Bulma），日本漫画作家鸟山明的漫画《龙珠》原作与改编的系列中登场的人物。也是系列中主角·孙悟空的第一位同伴。万能胶囊公司董事长布里夫博士的女儿，IQ极高的天才科学家。为得到浪漫的爱情而收集龙珠、并与孙悟空等人展开大冒险。起初与雅木茶为男女朋友，后因忍受不了雅木茶沾花惹草而分手。那美克星篇结束后与贝吉塔先后生下了特兰克斯与布拉。

Bulma (ブルマ, Buruma) first appears as a teenager using the Dragon Radar, a fictional device she created to detect the energy signal emitted by Dragon Balls. She is led to Goku's location by the signal emitted by the four-star ball in his possession and recruits him as a bodyguard while hoping to get his four-star ball to grant her wish for a boyfriend. She gives up on the wish after meeting Yamcha, and much later in the series, she marries Vegeta. Bulma has also assumed the role of inventor and has consistently provided critical tech support to Goku and his friends in their battles against various enemies and threats throughout the series. Some of her notable innovations include a microband that could make her shrink and a time machine that brought her son from an alternate future timeline, Trunks, to the past on multiple occasions.

Chi-Chi 琪琪

琪琪，日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。牛魔王的女儿、孙悟空的妻子。幼时与孙悟空在火焰山相遇，并定下婚约。后在第23届天下第一武道会上与已成年的孙悟空重逢并完婚，婚后育有两子—孙悟饭、孙悟天。婚后的琪琪成为典型的教育型妈妈，但依然有着贤妻良母的一面。

Chi-Chi (チチ) is Goku's wife, Gohan and Goten's mother, and Pan's grandmother. She and Goku first meet as children when her father, the Ox-King, asks Goku to take her to Master Roshi's house. In a misunderstanding, Goku promises to marry her. Years later, she confronts him about his promise at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, and they get married. As the matriarch of the family, she is depicted as being overprotective of Gohan's well-being and wishes to interrupt Goku's lifestyle of fighting and constant conflict. She relaxes her stance with her younger son Goten, even training him herself.

Oolong 乌龙

乌龙（日文名：乌龙、英文名：Uron、又译：小八戒），日本漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。外型是一只小猪，动物型地球人。该角色根据《西游记》中的猪八戒为原型及中国茶叶乌龙茶命名

 Oolong (ウーロン, Ūron), named Mao-Mao in the Harmony Gold dub, is a shapeshifting, anthropomorphic pig that uses his abilities for his greedy desires. He and Puar went to the same shapeshifting school together before he was expelled for stealing the teacher's panties; as such, he can only change his form for five minutes at a time, requiring a one-minute break afterwards. Oolong joins Goku and Bulma to search for the Dragon Balls and eventually steal them but abandons this plan. He makes the first shown wish with the Dragon Balls: a pair of panties. Oolong plays a minor role as the series progresses, where he is often in the company of Master Roshi.

Dr. Briefs 布里夫博士
布里夫博士，漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的男性角色之一。塔伊丝、布尔玛的父亲，万能胶囊公司的创始人，杰出而性格古怪的科学家。他是一个喜剧性质的人物，第一部中时常和妻子冷战，还因为收藏了很多不良读物而不被布尔玛信任。 Dr. Briefs (ブリーフ博士, Burīfu-hakase), sometimes written as Dr. Brief, is Bulma's father, and Trunks and Bra's grandfather. He is an elderly scientist who is one of the smartest and richest men in the world. Dr. Briefs is the founder and president of Capsule Corporation (カプセルコーポレーション, Kapuseru Kōporēshon), the largest company on Earth, and the man responsible for the invention of the Hoi-Poi Capsules (ホイ ポイ カプセル, Hoi Poi Kapuseru), which can shrink inanimate objects down to pocket-sized capsule of namesake

Yajirobe 亚奇洛贝

弥次郎兵卫（ヤジロベー，Yajirobe）是日本著名漫画《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。有着高超的剑术，这个带着武士刀的胖子在这个异想天开的故事中却是个举足轻重的人物，总是能在孙悟空最危险的时候救他一命，可以说他是孙悟空最重要的贵人。

Yajirobe (ヤジロベー, Yajirobē) is an overweight samurai that is often considered to be rude, unmannered, timid, lazy, and cowardly. During their first meeting, Yajirobe gets mad at Goku for stealing his fish, but has a change of heart and helps Goku after he is defeated by King Piccolo, taking him to Korin's to be healed. Yajirobe continues to support Goku and his companions mostly from the sidelines. He was originally a wanderer that lived off the land, but lives with Korin after meeting him. He grows Senzu Beans and delivers them to Goku and his companions. When Goku fights Vegeta for the first time, Yajirobe cuts off Vegeta's tail to turn him back to normal. After this story arc, Yajirobe only makes brief appearances. When Krillin died, Toriyama requested that Yajirobe be voiced by his voice actress Mayumi Tanaka. When Yajirobe and Krillin later appeared in the same scene together, Tanaka gave the former a Nagoya dialect in order to distinguish them.

King Kai 北界王
北界王（north Kaiō），日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。负责管理北银河（包括地球）的神。五大界王之一，他和他的宠物猩猩巴布鲁斯（动画中还有蚱蜢古雷格利）一起生活在重力是地球10倍的界王星。而且一对触角有着感知所有银河系的能力。 沙鲁游戏时，孙悟空用瞬间移动把将要自爆的沙鲁带到界王星，他以及巴布鲁斯和古雷格利就是死于这场大爆炸之中。尽管死了，但在龙珠Z后面的剧情中，他还是继续发挥着作用。
King Kai (界かい王おう様さま Kaiō-sama, lit. "King of Worlds") is the North Kai (北きたの界かい王おう Kita no Kaiō, lit. "North King of Worlds") and king of Universe 7's North Area. A comedy lover and brilliant mentor, he acts as Goku's Martial Arts teacher and instructs him in using the Kaio-ken and the Spirit Bomb. He later teaches Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Piccolo, and Chiaotzu and continues to act as a major supporting character throughout the majority of the series.


Bubbles 巴布魯斯

Bubbles (バブルス Baburusu) is the monkey pet and friend of King Kai. He serves a special purpose during King Kai's training lessons, particularly one of two endurance tests, where trainees are instructed to chase after Bubbles in an effort to catch him. Though the task may seem simple at first, there is a catch: the gravity on King Kai's Planet is ten times that of Earth, and Bubbles is perfectly used to it.
Gregory 古雷格利
古雷格利（グレゴリー）是《龙珠》系列的人物，北界王的宠物之一，速度很快的一只蚱蜢，在动画版登场，由三矢雄二、草尾毅、沼田祐介配音。
Gregory (グレゴリー Guregorī) is a levitating cricket sprite that acts as King Kai's butler and looks after him. Gregory is a small dark green cricket like humanoid, with an upright posture, antenna, and bug like eyes, he also has a tail like protrusion at the bottom of his torso. After Cell blew up King Kai's Planet, Gregory has been seen with a halo.

Shenron 神龙

神龙，日本经典动漫《龙珠》及其衍生作品中的角色。传说，世界上散落着7颗龙珠，各有一至七颗不等的五角星标记，集齐7颗龙珠念出咒语，就能召唤神龙，并能向其许一个愿望神龙实现愿望后，7颗龙珠便会自动飞散，变成石头，一年后才可再次使用。《龙珠超》追加新设定：龙珠因制造者的能力，龙珠数量也是不定的；超级龙珠和地球龙珠不一样。

Shénlóng (神龍, Shenron, lit. "Dragon God"), Shenron in Funimation's anime dub, also known as the Eternal Dragon in the Ocean and Funimation dubs and as the Dragon God in the Harmony Gold dub, is the wish-granting dragon summoned when all seven of Earth's Dragon Balls are gathered together. Throughout the series, several rules on the Dragon Balls' use and limitations on Shenron's power are explained. After the wish is granted the balls scatter across the planet, turn to stone, are useless for a year, and cannot be detected by Bulma's Dragon Radar.

Angila
Angila (アンギラ Angira) is Lord Slug's right-hand man who appears in Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. Angila is a tall and handsome alien with cyan skin, pointed ears, small horns and shaggy long blonde hair. He wears a light purple Ancient Greek style toga wrap, purple bandana, red earrings, blue bracers, a purple cape, white pants and dark orange and blue boots. On the original cover of Lord Slug, Angila's clothing is red instead of blue, and rather than blue, his skin pigment is a light green.

Gyoshu and Kakuja
Gyoshu (ギョーシュ Gyōshu) and Kakuja (カクージャ Kakūja) are identical scientists who work for Lord Slug. They were the only minions of Slug who were not fighters. Gyoshu seems to have more of a cowardly attitude, while Kakuja is more serious and evil.

Commander Zeeun
Commander Zeeun (ゼエウン Zeeun) is one of Lord Slug's henchmen who appears in Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. Zeeun appears to be quite loyal to Slug, ordering Gyoshu to hurry up and figure out how long it will take to Terra-Freeze Earth while remarking that Slug doesn't have time to wait on Gyoshu. However, he is foolish in choosing his words and makes the mistake of remarking on Slug's age and mortality. This mistake costs him his life.

Wings
Wings, also known as Dorodabo (ドロダボ Dorodabo), is one of Lord Slug's henchmen who appears in Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. Wings is a large, brown-skinned, gargoyle-like Demon.

Medamatcha
Medamatcha (メダマッチャ Medamatcha) is one of Lord Slug's henchmen who appears in Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. Medamatcha is a short, green-skinned, frog-faced alien with large yellow eyes, pointed ears, small horns and red lips. He has long arms and short stubby legs. He wears a brown band around his right arm, blue pants with a tied red cloth belt, and dark yellow and brown boots. Medamatcha is cheerful, energetic and sadistic. He takes pleasure in causing pain and was gleefully eager to kill a injured and unresponsive Gohan. So much in fact, he tried to finish off the young Saiyan twice. When fighting, he giggles maniacally and derides his opponents.

Slug 史拉格

史拉格和比克一样是那美克星人，当年那美克星面临毁灭他在婴儿时被送到史拉格星。他是拥有绝对的邪恶的心的超级那美克星人，比原来的比克还要厉害 而且界王估计他比弗利萨和超级赛亚人还厉害。后来被孙悟空、孙悟饭和比克联手打败。

Slug (スラッグ Suraggu), known as Lord Slug (スラッグ様 Suraggu-sama) to himself and his underlings, is a Namekian, and the main antagonist of Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. It is explained that he is one of the Super Namekians and was sent to Planet Slug as a baby to escape the extinction that was about to ravage Namek. As he matured, the evil in his heart began to overwhelm his character thanks to a rare mutation unique to Namekians; this transformed him into a Super Namekian. Since then, he had gathered an army and became a conqueror of planets (in Funimation dub, he was banished from Planet Namek sometime around Age 261 along with other Super Namekians).

Icarus
Icarus, known as Hire Dragon (ハイヤードラゴン Haiyā Doragon) in the original Japanese version and uncut Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, is one of Gohan's closest non-humanoid friends. A young lilac coloured dragon. He has large innocent looking green eyes, a set of small wings that despite his overall size allow him to fly at fast speeds, and a set of protruding horns that come out the top of his head and also from the side of his face.
